A sailor in his 60s has been taken to hospital after falling ill on board a yacht off the north Wales coast.

He was with his wife six miles (10 km) off Pwllheli when they contacted coastguards at Holyhead on Thursday at 05:00 BST.

The man was suffering from severe stomach pains and an RNLI lifeboat picked him up and took him to an ambulance waiting onshore.

He was taken to hospital in Bangor, Gwynedd.

The lifeboat is expected to return to the yacht, which is from Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire, to assist the man's wife who remained on board.
