Kayaker rescued after back injury in Gwynedd river

An injured kayaker has been rescued from a Gwynedd river in a five-hour operation.

The man - in his mid twenties - is thought to have injured his back whilst on the River Mawddach in south Gwynedd.

A rescue helicopter from RAF Valley, Anglesey, lowered a winch-man near the spot but low cloud prevented it getting any closer.

The kayaker was then carried by rescuers to meet an ambulance and taken to hospital in Bangor.
