Pensarn flat fire: Man badly injured in fall from window

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from the window of a flat which was on fire.

Firefighters were called to the property in South Parade, Pensarn, Abergele, shortly before 02:50 GMT on Friday.

North Wales Police said 11 residents, including three children, were evacuated from neighbouring flats and taken to a nearby community centre.

The 51-year-old man, believed to be the flat's occupant, has serious injuries.

The fire service said it was quickly on the scene and was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to neighbouring properties.

Det Insp Jonathon Salisbury-Jones of St Asaph CID said: "North Wales Police are conducting a joint investigation with the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.

"Clearly this will be completed as soon as possible as there are some real concerns in the community.

"Initial inquiries have led me to believe the flat's occupant may hold significant evidence and unfortunately he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

"I would however add that at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the fire.

Police have appealed for witnesses or those who have information about the fire to contact them on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
