Ice climber rescued at Maesglasau waterfalls

An ice climber has been airlifted to hospital after falling 40m (130ft) at waterfalls in Gwynedd.

Mountain rescue rope specialists and a crew from RAF Valley, Anglesey, were called to Maesglasau waterfalls near Dinas Mawddwy on Sunday at 15:30 GMT.

The injured person and climbing partner were winched aboard the helicopter.

The two climbers were taken to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, for assessment but their condition has not been revealed.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue team had initially been called out and co-ordinated the early stages of the rescue, staying at the scene in case the helicopter had been unable to attend.
