PC Gary Donnelly denies girl attempted rape charge

Mold Law Courts Gary Donnelly denied the charges when he appeared at court at Mold on Monday

A police officer denied a charge of attempted rape and two charges of indecent assault on a girl aged under 16 when he appeared at Mold Crown Court on Monday.

PC Gary Donnelly, 47, from Llandudno, Conwy, is currently suspended from North Wales Police.

Mr Donnelly, a community beat officer in the town, is due to stand trial in September.

A pre-trial review will be held in June when the trial judge is known.

The charges date back to 2002.

The judge, Mr Recorder Duncan Bould, fixed the trial for 2 September.

He agreed that arrangements should be made for a judge from outside north Wales to conduct the trial, which is expected to last four to five days.

Mr Donnelly, who joined the force in 2003, won the North Wales Police Federation's community service award for 2011.

He has been suspended since the allegations came to light last October.
