Welsh cake-flavoured ice cream joins host of unusual recipes

Wales is famed for certain dishes - Welsh rarebit, bara brith and laverbread.

But confectioners in Conwy have gone one step further and put a new twist on the most traditional dish, the humble Welsh cake.

They have developed Welsh cake-flavoured ice cream, which is laced with nutmeg and cinnamon.

Mark Baravelli, who works for the family-run company in Llandudno, said: "We think it is a fantastic pairing."

The new recipe joins a host of other unusual ice cream flavours that have been created over the years, including balsamic strawberry, salted mustard caramel and even bacon and egg.
