Colwyn Bay Hospital Minor Injuries Unit to reopen after winter closure

A hospital's Minor Injury Unit (MIU) is to reopen after being temporarily closed to ease pressure on staff over the busy winter months.

Colwyn Bay Hospital's MIU was one of several community hospitals and wards closed in north Wales in December.

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) had been criticised for not giving enough public notice of the closures.

The health board confirmed Colwyn Bay's MIU will reopen next Monday, 16 April.

At a meeting in February, the Betsi Cadwaladr Community Health Council (BCCHC) expressed concern after being told some GPs and social services managers were told of the ward closures 24 hours before they were made public.

The BCCHC heard that a protocol was being drawn up for future urgent changes to the NHS in north Wales.

The health board had originally said the closures would remain in force until March 2012.
