A couple from Flintshire and their dog have been rescued after becoming trapped in a notorious gully on a Snowdonia peak.

Mountain rescue teams said the pair were helped when a North Wales Police helicopter crew snapped images of their location on Tryfan.

The police aircraft then landed at Ogwen Valley rescue base to pass on the precise information.

Rescuers say the couple, both in their 20s, were not adequately equipped.

Ogwen Valley rescue team spokesperson Chris Lloyd said his volunteers were grateful to the police for "great use of modern communications".

The alarm was first raised at about 13:30 BST on Friday. But it was not until 20:30 in the evening that the pair and their small black dog were finally brought to safety, unharmed.

The mountain rescuers said the two people had become trapped in a well-known steep gully, where rescue operations have been carried out in the past.
