Investigations are continuing into the death of a woman whose body was found under a road bridge near Wrexham.

The A483 bypass was closed for about three hours on 30 December following the discovery beneath the bridge, which carries traffic between Chirk and Ruabon.

Police said the death was unexplained and have referred the matter to North East Wales Coroner John Gittins.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place later this week.

North Wales Police were called to an area below the bridge between Halton roundabout, Chirk, and the A539 at Ruabon at 13:30 GMT on Monday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest is expected to be opened in the new year.
