'Lucky' rescue of man clinging to rope at Holyhead port

A man has been rescued after being found clinging to a rope in the water at Holyhead port on Anglesey.

An RNLI member in bed at home raised the alarm at 04:30 GMT after hearing screams for help and a lifeboat and coastguard were called out.

The man, in his 20s and from Manchester, had unsuccessfully tried to climb the rope which was dangling over the quay.

Rescuers said the man was "extremely lucky."

He was taken to hospital in Bangor with hypothermia.

The matter has been referred to North Wales Police.
