An eighth person has been arrested as part of an investigation into historical sex abuse at care homes in north Wales.

The 59-year-old man was held at an address in Lancaster, Lancashire, over allegations he indecently assaulted two boys.

One boy is alleged to have been assaulted between 1968 and 1973 when he was aged between 11 and 16.

The second is alleged to have been assaulted in 1970 aged nine.

The man is the eighth person to be arrested as part of Operation Pallial, the investigation being run by the National Crime Agency which was launched in November to look at allegations relating to care homes between 1963 and 1992.

The National Crime Agency was selected at the request of North Wales Police to ensure the inquiry's independence.

To date, one person has been charged with a total of 32 serious sexual offences.
