Flintshire man's body found in Shropshire Union Canal

An investigation is under way into the "unexplained" death of a Flintshire man whose body was found in a canal on the outskirts of Chester.

A post mortem examination has been carried out on the man, believed to be in his early twenties and from the Broughton area.

The body was discovered at 15:30 BST on Monday, floating in the Shropshire Union Canal, near Vicars Cross.

Cheshire police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances.

The Cheshire coroner has been informed and an inquest is expected to be opened within the next few days.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "At this stage there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and the death is being treated as unexplained."
