'Substantial' fire at stainless steel factory in Wrexham

Firefighters have tackled a "substantial" blaze at a factory producing stainless steel rods on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The fire broke out at 23:52 GMT on Friday at an industrial unit on Abbey Road.

Eight crews from Wrexham, Johnstown, Buckley, Deeside, Llangollen and Mold were sent to the scene.

Andy Robb, of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said an automatic alarm system activated a sprinkler system.

He said: "They operated and this meant that the fire was confined to the storage area of the factory although the whole floor was affected by smoke.

"The swift actions of crews helped to prevent the fire from spreading further."

The cause of the fire in now under investigation.
