APPE to axe 50 jobs at Wrexham plastic containers factory

Nearly 50 jobs are expected to be lost at a factory in Wrexham which makes plastic containers.

APPE, which employs 264 people on Gresford industrial park, has begun redundancy consultations with its workforce.

The firm says the economic downturn has resulted in some customers moving their production to continental Europe.

But changes in the management structure could lead to the creation of 16 new jobs.

The firm makes containers for the food, drink, personal care and household markets.
