Scrap yard fire wrecks workshop in Wrexham

An investigation is under way after a workshop and two vehicles were wrecked in a fire at a scrap yard in Wrexham.

A nearby shop was evacuated after reports oxy acetylene gas cylinders were at the scene of the fire on Bryn Estyn Road.

Two fire engines were called to the scene on Monday at 06:47 BST. Local people reported seeing thick black smoke.

Officers are investigating from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Initially there were reports the fire was at a commercial garage.

Residents were told to stay indoors and police put a cordon in place due to safety concerns.

A fire service spokesperson said: "The fire was quickly brought under control with continued cooling of the acetylene cylinder currently being undertaken."
