Alan Smith dies after ladder fall at Deeside Industrial Park

A man has died following a fall from a ladder while carrying out work at a Flintshire engineering company.

Alan Smith, 64, a contractor from Manchester, was working at DRB Group on the Deeside Industrial Park when the accident happened last week.

He was rushed to hospital but died the next day after sustaining severe injuries. An inquest has been opened. HSE Wales has been informed.

The company said staff were saddened by the incident and had tried to help.

DRB human resources manager Keith Vivian said: "Our thoughts are with Mr Smith's family and friends and with the members of staff who had to witness this very sad event.

"Our first aiders gave as much assistance as they could until the ambulance arrived.

"It is very sad and hard to take."

Paramedics took Mr Smith to the Countess of Chester Hospital following the accident on 6 March.

He was later transferred to Liverpool's Walton Centre where he died a day later.

On Monday, north east Wales acting coroner John Gittins opened and adjourned an inquest to a date to be fixed.
