Neighbours have described an explosion that destroyed a house in a Ceredigion village as an investigation continues into what caused it.
Fire crews were called to what they believed was a two-storey detached home in Beulah on Saturday at 21:00 BST.
Shocked neighbours said the blast was like a "bomb going off".
Nobody was hurt and it is understood the owners were away. Mid and West Wales fire service said the cause was not yet known.
A spokesman for the fire service said a thermal imaging camera and rescue dog were used to search the property.
The road was closed overnight.
Neighbour Geraint Davies said: "I was watching television and there was one horrendous bang - I thought the house had fallen down.
"But when I went out to look I couldn't see anything so I went out on the road and I looked up and I could see that the house house next door had disappeared."
Mr Davies immediately called the police.
He said the police were "very suspicious that gas had ignited".
Another neighbour, Wyn Thomas, who carried out work on the property's roof around 20 years ago, said: "I can't believe so much damage has been done - it's like as if a bomb has gone off in there."
Dai Rees, who also lives nearby, said: "I was in the house eating my supper and there was a big bang.
"It was a shock. It was the first time I had heard a bang like that."
