House explosion in Beulah, Ceredigion like 'bomb' going off
An investigation is continuing into what caused an explosion that destroyed a house in Ceredigion.
Fire crews were called to what they believed was a two-storey detached property in the village of Beulah on Saturday at around 21:00 BST.
Shocked neighbours said the explosion was like a "bomb going off".
Nobody was hurt and it is understood the owners are away. Mid and West Wales Fire Service said the cause of the blast was not yet known.
End Quote Wyn Thomas Neighbour
I can't believe so much damage has been done - it's as if a bomb has gone off in there”
Neighbour Geraint Davies said: "I was watching television and there was one horrendous bang - I thought the house had fallen down.
"But when I went out to look I couldn't see anything so I went out on the road and I looked up and I could see that the house house next door had disappeared."'Shock'
Mr Davies immediately called the police.
He said the police were "very suspicious that gas had ignited".
Another neighbour, Wyn Thomas, who carried out work on the property's roof about 20 years ago, said: "I can't believe so much damage has been done - it's as if a bomb has gone off in there."
Dai Rees, who also lives nearby, said: "I was in the house eating my supper and there was a big bang.
"It was a shock. It was the first time I had heard a bang like that."
A spokesman for the fire service said a thermal imaging camera and rescue dog were used to search the property.
The road was closed overnight.
