Police searching for a man reported missing at a Ceredigion lake say a body has been recovered.

Dyfed Powys Police said the body of a man was found in Llyn Syfydrin, near Aberystwyth, on Tuesday.

It followed an extensive search when a local 26-year-old went missing after going into the water at about 16:00 BST on Bank Holiday Monday.

The force said the man's next of kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

In a statement, police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm that following an extensive search involving all the emergency services, and a specialist underwater dive team, the body of a man has been recovered from Llyn Syfydrin lake this afternoon.

"It is believed to be the body of the 26-year-old local man last seen yesterday afternoon, but has not been formally identified at this time."
