Llandrindod Wells: Tanker lorry blamed for gas alert

Reports of a gas leak in a Powys town which led to two fire crews being called out in the early hours on Sunday have been put down to a tanker lorry.

A number of residents in Llandrindod Wells called Dyfed-Powys Police shortly after midnight, including the town's Metropole Hotel.

Firefighters checked the area and the hotel but found no evidence of a leak.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the strong smell of gas might have been left by a gas tanker.

The Metropole Hotel said it did not evacuate any of its guests but said there had been a smell of gas in various parts of the town.

The fire service said police had received "quite a few calls from the public about the smell".
