Police officer involved in Newtown crash while on call

A police officer has been involved in a road crash with a Royal Mail lorry while responding to an incident in Powys.

The officer, in a Volvo patrol car, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the collision in Newtown shortly after 17:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The officer's condition is unknown. Dyfed-Powys Police said the man driving the lorry was unhurt.

The A483 in the area was closed and diversions put in place.

Police said they were investigating the incident.

People with information are asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
