Shropshire body boarder, 16, rescued from sea in Borth

A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital after banging her head while body boarding in the sea in Ceredigion.

The teenager, from Shropshire, was rescued by RNLI lifeguards near the shore in Borth on Monday, and was said to be semi-conscious.

Coastguards said the girl was taken to Aberystwyth's Bronglais Hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

The girl's mother told the lifeguards that her daughter was prone to fainting.

The mother was spotted trying to pull her daughter out of the water on Monday at 14:30 BST.

The girl was treated at the scene and then taken to a house next to the beach where she and her family were staying. She was later transferred to hospital.

Coastguards said the her injuries were not serious.
