Hide and seek girl in Aberaeron beach rescue

11 July 2014 Last updated at 14:12 BST

A nine-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after she became stuck among sea defence boulders while playing hide and seek.

The incoming tide saw waves crashing against the rocks during what the RNLI said was a dramatic rescue at Aberaeron, Ceredigion.

A lifeboat crewman on his first rescue had to submerge himself in the water to free the girl by cutting her wellies.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The rescue on Thursday afternoon involved coastguards, police, paramedics and fire crews.
