7 May 2014 Last updated at 14:10 BST

The alleged attempted murder of two children in Newport has been described as 'tragic' by police.

Officers were called to Salisbury Close, Shaftsbury, at about 08:00 BST on Wednesday, where a knife was recovered.

A seven-year old boy and a 16-month-old baby girl were found with knife wounds and are being treated at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

A 27-year-old woman, who neighbours say is the children's mother, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is also being treated for injuries.

Gwent Police Supt Mark Warrender said the incident was isolated and police were not looking for anyone else.
