People living close to a large fire on a recycling centre near Cardiff have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut as a plume of smoke drifts across the area.

Up to 70 firefighters are trying to extinguish the blaze which started at about 02:00 GMT on Friday at the Atlantic Waste Management site on Newton Road near Rumney.

Natural Resources Wales said smoke from the fire is not hazardous. The fire is expected to burn for several days and a 200 metre exclusion zone will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Peter Jenkins, group manager with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, explained the action crews were taking to tackle the fire.
