Grass fires break out after dry weather

Fire crews across Wales have been tackling a spate of grass fires following several days of dry weather.

On Monday evening South Wales Fire Service were called to two fires in Maesteg, near Bridgend, behind the High Street and the town's fire station.

Crews were also called to Rhydyfelin near Pontypridd, New Tredegar near Caerphilly and Sirhowy mountain near Ebbw Vale.

Grass fires also broke out in Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Llangollen.

Mid and West Wales fire crews responded to incidents at locations including Morriston, Upper Brynamman and Horeb, near Carmarthen.

A spokeswoman for the service said all the fires were under one hectare (2.5 acres) in size.

In north Wales three engines were called to a fire at Llantysilio, near Llangollen, which affected two hectares of land shortly after 17:00 GMT.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was originally started as part of controlled burning which then spread.
