Robert Adams downloaded porn to school computer, hearing told
A teacher accidentally downloaded his private adult pornography collection onto a primary school computer system, a disciplinary hearing has been told.
Robert Adams, 52, transferred files from his personal memory stick to the main computer system at Deighton Primary School in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, in 2009, the hearing was told.
A nursery teacher found a file called "Glam" on her class computer.
The hearing, which continues, was told children could have seen the images.
Mr Adams, who denies unacceptable professional conduct, was suspended with full pay after the pornography was found on the school system.
The shock find prompted a police investigation and Mr Adams' arrest.Maintenance work
He was later released without charge and denies any wrongdoing - despite a senior detective's hunch he had found "suspicious activity".
The General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW) disciplinary hearing was told every classroom in the school had a computer which teachers and pupils could access through personal accounts with passwords.
The incident happened after the school's servers had been shut down for maintenance work by the local council.
The hearing was told IT co-ordinator Mr Adams volunteered to download important school files onto his personal memory stick so that they were not lost.
When the servers were back up, he uploaded the files back onto the system, along with his alleged private adult porn collection called "Glam".'I was shocked'
Nursery teacher Jayne Edwards said she was looking for classwork when she spotted the folder on the school's shared drive. Thinking it was short for "Glamorgan", she doubled clicked on the icon.
She said: "I could see many thumbnail images in the folder and when I clicked on the first image I saw an adult female with no clothes on.
"In the next image I clicked on, there were three females without clothes on.
"Obviously I was shocked at what I had seen and I went running around the school to find someone."
Mrs Edwards told the hearing she immediately reported the porn folder to the head teacher.
Former head teacher Roger Fawke said: "Mr Adams was quite concerned that there was material that children could access.
"His reaction was one I would have expected from anyone.
"He is one of the best teachers I have ever come across and was a valued member of staff that I could trust to do the best for pupils."
Representing Mr Adams, David Browne of the Nasuwt union said he strongly contested the sole allegation against him.
Mr Adams is expected to give evidence on Wednesday but the GTCW's panel has ruled that this evidence will be heard in private due to "extenuating circumstances".
