Bus driver Jon Ashman denies Newgale wave error

Police are investigating after a bus with 10 passengers on board was forced off the road by a large wave in Pembrokeshire.

The incident at Newgale, which happened in severe weather on Saturday, has left the A487 road closed while debris is removed.

Pembrokeshire council said workers had directed traffic away from the road, advised the bus driver not to continue and tried to flag him down when he did.

However the driver, Jon Ashman, told Abigail Neal of BBC Wales he had been told the road was "passable with care".

He added: "Ultimately I'm not going to put myself or passengers at risk. It's not in my best interest. I'm paid to get people from A to B safely and that's what I endeavour to do."
