Armed police called over weapon fear in Newport

Armed police were called after reports a weapon was involved in a number of incidents between the occupants of two cars driving erratically in Newport.

The men in the vehicles - both Audis - were also involved in a fight before crashing with another car, Gwent Police said.

After fleeing the scene, one car was stopped on the M4 and the other in Highbank in the city on Monday evening.

Six men were arrested and what is believed to be a BB air gun was found.

Two men who were in a grey Audi, which was stopped by police at junction 22 of the M4.

They were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

The other Audi, which was white, was discovered in Highbank.

Four men were arrested.

The driver of the Fiat car, which was involved in the crash in Bank Street, was uninjured.

What is believed to be a BB pellet gun was also found in Bank Street.

Gwent Police has appealed for anyone who has information about the incidents to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
