Man found injured in Penarth street 'had fallen'

Police say they no longer believe a 69-year-old man who was found lying injured in a road had been hit by a car or assaulted.

Officers had appealed for information after the man was discovered at 01:30 BST on Saturday in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, and was taken to hospital.

But they now believe he had fallen over in Grove Terrace while returning home from Penarth Conservative Club.

Police said his injuries are not as serious as first thought.

But he has had surgery and officers are still appealing for information if anyone saw him fall.

South Wales Police said anyone with information can call the non emergency 101 number or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
