Llangollen chain bridge gets lottery restoration grant

12 August 2013 Last updated at 15:10 BST

A chain-link suspension bridge in Denbighshire will be fully restored and reopened after being closed to the public for 30 years.

The chain bridge in Llangollen was originally built to allow coal merchants to cross the River Dee.

But as a footbridge it fell into disrepair and was closed in the 1980s.

A £350,000 lottery grant means refurbishment can begin shortly.

Matthew Richards reports.
