Funerals cancelled after Margam Crematorium roof fire

Funerals have been cancelled at a Port Talbot crematorium until further notice following a fire in the roof early on Friday.

The fire at Margam Crematorium will affect seven funerals on Friday and one on Saturday.

Families are being contacted by their funeral directors to make alternative arrangements, said Neath Port Talbot council.

The council has apologised to mourners for the inconvenience.

"We'd like to offer our heartfelt apologies to the families and mourners and will provide further information when we are able to," said a spokesperson.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service said appliances from Port Talbot, Neath and Kenfig Hill were called to the fire in the roof and ceiling of the main crematorium building in Margam at 05:20 BST.

The cause was not thought to be suspicious.
