Accommodation in a former north Wales police station is being offered in return for the residents acting as a "guardians".

A company specialising in vacant property protection is advertising rooms in the Prestatyn station for £180 a month.

Tenants, who must be working adults, will be expected to guard from asset strippers or squatters.

North Wales Police said the scheme ensures the building is used.

The station was closed to the public in 2006 but was used until recently as the base for the Administration of Justice Department which has now moved to St Asaph.

The Ad Hoc website says: "Large office-sized rooms are available in a former police station in Prestatyn for £180 a month.

"The property is shared with other guardians with shared kitchen. Car parking available."

Company marketing manager Zoe Oakes said they also manage vacant properties including libraries, sports centres, schools and churches.

"It's affordable low cost living. The property is protected and local working people are getting somewhere affordable to live."

The minimum tenancy is two months, she said.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "We still own the building and it is being let under a scheme to make sure it is kept occupied and make use of."
