The former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams has been appointed the new chancellor of the University of South Wales.

The role sees Lord Williams become the formal head of the university and he will preside over degree ceremonies and other occasions.

The University of South Wales was formed earlier this year following a merger of Glamorgan and Newport.
