Snow stops after hazardous road conditions

Snow fell in parts of north east Wales on Wednesday morning

Snow has stopped falling across most of Wales and outbreaks of rain overnight are set to move in.

Snow fell in many areas earlier on Wednesday making driving conditions difficult, but major routes were open.

An updated "be aware" warning for snow was issued by the Met Office for parts of Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, and north Powys.

North Wales saw several inches in some areas but snow also fell further south in eastern parts of the country.

Cardiff, Swansea, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire all saw some snow.

Gritting teams were out in many areas, and Denbighshire council said the weather affected refuse collections.

Flintshire council said all its priority routes were treated overnight, ahead of the snowfall.

The Met Office said it would be windy and cloudy in Wales on Wednesday night with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the country.

Rain would continue overnight, becoming heavy for a time before it cleared eastwards. It added that winds would be much lighter by dawn.

On Thursday, it said most places would have a dry day with sunny periods, but there would be chances of a few scattered showers during the day.
