Christmas in Wales: rare archive clips of Tom Jones 1966

Continuing a series of rare BBC Wales archive footage offering a glimpse of Christmas Past in Wales.

Christmas 1966, rare news stock footage of Tom Jones at home in south Wales with his parents and close-family. The Green Green Grass of Home was Number One in the charts. It was his second Number One single and his only Christmas chart-topper.

Lyrically, it tells the story of a man who describes his sweetheart and the eponymous green, green grass of home, but wakes to realise his memories are but a dream and he's actually in a prison cell on the day of his execution.

We also see Tom interviewed by BBC reporter Richard Whitmore during a recording session.
