Gwrych Castle set for luxury hotel development

A 193-year-old castle folly which once housed a zoo, a world champion boxer and Jewish refugees during World War Two is set to become a luxury hotel.

Conwy council planners are allowing developers to transform the derelict Gwrych Castle, near Abergele.

The castle is a prominent landmark for motorists travelling on the A55.

But the Grade I listed Gothic folly, built in 1819, is now roofless and overgrown after years of neglect.
