Four Co-operative food stores are to close in mid and north Wales due to poor trading performance.

The stores in Welshpool, Newtown, Flint and Connah's Quay will shut on 28 November.

Co-operative Food said efforts would be made to redeploy as many staff as possible or help them find alternative work.

The closures were "not a reflection of the commitment and hard work of the staff," a spokesperson added.

Co-operative Food said it remained committed to community retailing in Wales and "maintains a prominent food business, which has grown substantially over recent years".

Plans are under way for several new stores in Wales which will open before the end of the year.
