Sir Tom Jones cancels Olympics and Isle of Wight shows

Singer Sir Tom Jones has pulled out of concerts for the Olympics in London and on the Isle of Wight after contracting a chest infection and bronchitis.

The 72-year-old Welshman has cancelled performances at BT London Live in Hyde Park on Saturday and at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, on Sunday.

Sir Tom, a judge on BBC One's The Voice, apologised to fans on Twitter, and said it was "doctor's orders".

He has been replaced at the free London show by Will Young.

Young said: "I'm sad that Tom Jones can't do the show, I hope he gets well soon, and am very happy and excited to be playing Hyde Park for the Olympic events tomorrow".

A performance by the reformed five-piece group Steps at Osborne House on Saturday will go ahead as planned.

Organisers of the Isle of Wight show said ticketholders for Sir Tom's show will be refunded.

"Refunds for Osborne House tickets will be available from point of purchase with effect from Wednesday, 1 August. Holders of weekend tickets will receive a 50% refund," they said.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience this might bring, and appreciate your understanding.

"We wish Tom Jones a quick and full recovery."
