A young girl has been killed and seven people taken to hospital after a crash on a main coast road in Flintshire.

Two cars were involved in the crash on the A548 at Gwespyr, near Prestatyn.

North Wales Police closed the road so the casualties could be taken to hospital by helicopter and ambulance.

A force spokeswoman said a total of nine people were in the two vehicles at the time of the crash at 12:00 BST on Sunday.

"One young girl was fatally injured," said the spokeswoman.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area or allow more time because of road diversions.

The road was remaining closed while investigations into the crash continued, North Wales Police added.
