DVLA staff in Cardiff and Bangor strike over cuts

DVLA staff at Cardiff and Bangor joined a two-hour UK strike over planned office closures.

The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union says staff took part in the action at the DVLA's 39 local offices which are facing closure by the UK government, affecting 1,200 jobs.

The PCS says the proposed closures and cuts will hit jobs and pensions.

The Department for Transport has said it is disappointed at the strike, while in discussions with the union.

Friday's walk-out marked the start of a month of action by the PCS union.

DVLA staff in Swansea and driving examiners across the UK will also take action on Friday, 8 June.

The Department for Transport has previously said contingency plans are in place to keep vital services running.
