Titanic hero Harold Lowe: Grandson tells of pride as plaque unveiled
A blue plaque is to be unveiled at the retirement home in Deganwy, Conwy, of Titanic hero Commander Harold Lowe.
Lowe was Fifth Officer on the liner when it struck an iceberg and sank in 1912 with the loss of 1,517 lives.
Records show he commanded the only lifeboat to look for survivors, pulling four people from the freezing water.
Lowe lived in the waterfront house for 13 years until his death in 1944 aged 61.
His grandson, Capt John Harold Lowe, now lives in the property and says he is pleased his grandfather is now becoming better recognised for his bravery.
