Flood alerts on rivers as winds batter Wales

The Environment Agency has issued 16 flood alerts for Wales as coastguards report gale force winds on the coast.

The alerts report rising water levels in the rivers in the Cardiff area and south Wales valleys as well as the Loughor and Amman rivers in west Wales.

Holyhead, Milford Haven, and Mumbles coastguards reported winds with gusts reaching 55mph on Monday evening.

A 40mph limit is in force on the M48 Severn Bridge and one lane is closed.

Traffic Wales is also warning motorists to take care the A449 southbound between the A40 at Raglan and M4 in Monmouthshire due to surface water.

Flooding and surface water is also reported on the A465 Heads Of The Valleys Road in both directions between the A4059 and the A470.
