Golf coach Gareth Wyn Hughes wins BBC Wales unsung hero award
The winner of the BBC Cymru Wales Unsung Hero Award 2011 has been named as Gareth Wyn Hughes, a 26-year-old golf coach from Tylerstown, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
He has developed the Rhondda Golf Academy into a thriving community, offering golf opportunities to boys and girls up to the age of 18, with over 60 boys and girls now coached at the course each weekend.
In addition a number of primary and secondary schools participate in coaching sessions on a weekly basis.
Gareth will go forward to the national BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011 awards held at BBC Sport's new home at MediaCityUK in Salford on Thursday, December 22.
Claire Summers surprised him with the award at the club where his dedication has vastly expanded the club's juniors section.
