80mph plan critics attacked by Monmouth MP David Davies

Conservative Monmouth MP David Davies says plans to raise the motorway speed limit to 80mph would be good for the economy.

Environmental groups are opposed, but Mr Davies, a former haulier, told The Politics Show Wales' Lee Madan that some would not be happy even if cars were banned and horse and carts introduced.

Friends of the Earth Cymru said raising the speed limit from 70mph would be devastating for the environment.

The UK government, which says the current limit is often ignored, is carrying out an impact assessment.
