Obesity blamed for Type 2 diabetes rise

Help

The growing obesity epidemic in Wales is being blamed, in part, for the huge rise in the number of people developing Type 2 diabetes.

More than 160,000 people in Wales are living with diabetes, and one of those recently diagnosed is BBC Wales Today reporter Nick Palit, who is trying to reverse his condition through diet and exercise.

However, people of south Asian origin are far more likely to develop the disease.

Opinion is divided over whether genetics or diet is the cause.
