The head teacher of a Powys primary school has been suspended while an investigation takes place.

The nature of the allegations against Suzanne Foster, of Ysgol Maesydre in Welshpool, has not been made public.

Parents were informed of Mrs Foster's suspension on Tuesday, and Powys council said "interim measures" had been put in place.

The school has 235 pupils, who are taught through the medium of Welsh and English.

A Powys council spokesman said: "I can confirm that the head teacher of Ysgol Maesydre has been suspended from duties pending investigation into allegations.

"Suspension is a neutral act which is taken in order to enable an investigation to take place. Interim measures have been put in place at the school."
