Two Gwynedd men questioned over package sent to MI6

Police have been given more time to question two men from north Wales about suspect packages sent to addresses in London.

They are being held on suspicion of explosives offences after a package was sent to the intelligence service MI6.

Another was intercepted at a sorting office. Both were recovered by police.

The men, aged 52 and 21, were arrested at addresses in Caernarfon on Friday in a joint operation by North Wales Police and the Metropolitan force.

They were taken to a central London police station where they are being questioned.

A Met spokesman said magistrates on Saturday granted detectives a warrant of detention to hold the men until around 0400 BST on Monday.

Meanwhile, searches have been carried out in two locations in Caernarfon.

The men were arrested under Section 4 of the Explosives Act.
