The Falkirk Wheel had its busiest every month in July

Visitor numbers to the Falkirk Wheel have topped the 5.5m mark.

Operators say the milestone was passed after the most successful April to July in eight years.

Visits to the world's only rotating boat lift were up 30% compared to this time last year, with July being the busiest month since it opened in 2002.

Scottish Canals, which operates the attraction, said it has been a "very eventful year" with the opening of the Kelpies and Helix Park development.
