A man has died following a two-car crash on the A90 near Fraserburgh.

Five people were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the crash south of Rathen on Thursday, and a 73-year-old man has since died.

A two-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after the collision between a Volkswagen Passat and a Peugeot 308 at about 12:45, while the other four people were conveyed by ambulance.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Sgt Rob Warnock from the Aberdeenshire and Moray road policing unit said: "This is a tragic incident that has sadly resulted in a 73-year-old man losing his life.

"Investigations into the cause of the collision are at an early stage and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn't spoken to police to do so."
